Where to Buy Grass Fed Beef Online – The What, How, and Why!

Has meat become the antagonist?

Considering the new influx of vegan and vegetarian practices, the beef industry has been under fire for quite some time now. With the talk of inhuman animal treatment, high saturated fats and anti “conscious friendly” bloodshed, the meat industry could be facing its worst onslaught in years. To combat this, the industry began to turn inward towards the process that has so many enraged. While most people assume that a strictly plant based diet in every way trumps meat, Heathline.com writes:”Red meat is one of the most nutritious foods you can eat. It is loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and various other nutrients that can have profound effects on health.

Also, contrary to what you may think , some vegan and vegetarian diets lack vital proteins and nutrients you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. For example, NY Times writes: “A vegan who consumes no animal products can be just as unhealthy living on inappropriately selected plant foods as an omnivore who dines heavily on burgers and chicken nuggets. A vegan diet laden with refined grains like white rice and bread; juices and sweetened drinks; cookies, chips and crackers; and dairy-free ice cream is hardly a healthful way to eat.”

I bet your asking yourself how does such a nutritious substance get such a bad reputation. Its largely due to the fact that a large portion of the meat we consume today vastly differs from the pure meat consumed by carnivores in the wild. The modern meat of today is largely processed. The animals are raised on a farm where they are given drugs, injected with hormones, antibiotics and fed growth enhancing supplements like grain or lard. After the meat is harvested, and undergoes a second chemical treatment, it hits the shelves at your nearest local deli or supermarket.

What is Grass Fed Beef

To combat the exposed dealings of the meat industry, a cure to the skepticism of America’s once beloved dinner food began to raise a few eyebrows. The answer to the dilemma was found in understanding how the diet and psychological state of the animal affected the final product. Ranchers began to turn away from traditional processed grain fed diets and push for a more green approach. Seeing the error of their ways, some ranches switched their animals to an all grass fed diet and vowed to procure the meat by using the easiest and least painful means. What emerged from this experiment was none other than a prime steak to silence all the critics: grass fed beef!

Grass Fed Beef vs Grain Fed Beef

Grass fed beef is similar in a lot of ways to the traditional processed beef we are used to eating. However, as you calculate the numbers, grass fed offers a broader scope of health benefits than is predecessor.

  • Offers less saturated and monounsaturated fats
  • Contains a larger amount of omega-6 polyunsaturated fats
  • Contains 5x more Omega-3s
  • Contains 2x more Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
  • Contains Vitamin A precursors like beta-carotne
  • Vitamin E
  • And more miconutrients like potassium, iron, zinc, phosphorus, a sodium.

As you can see, if your looking for a healthier diet without the drastic changes of vegan and vegetarian lifestyles, grass fed beef is definitely one of the better choices!

Final Comments about ordering online:

If you are worried about the potential harms of consuming meat shipped to your home, look at what KansasCitySteaks.com wrote about buying meat online: “When you buy meat online, you quite obviously avoid the hassle of driving to the grocery store or butcher shop. But did you also know that ordering steaks online means you’re getting the cream of the crop in terms of cut, selection and tenderness? Kansas City Steak Company’s many customers prefer to buy meat this way.”

“The USDA estimates that Americans order nearly $6 billion in food over the internet just at the December holiday season.”(professorhouse.com)

Caution: When buying grass feed beef online, as with anything, be sure to research the company thoroughly before your purchase. Shipping meat is a tricky business and can be hazardous depending on the method used.

  1. I knew that the meat we are eating from the stores does not have all the health benefits compared with the meat that our ancestors used to eat. I have been on the Paleo Diet for a while now and in search of the grass-fed dairy and beef. I never knew that you can buy meat online, that is a big discovery to me! Will definitely order. Thank you for your post.

  2. Hi Dwight. Thanks for the write up on grass-fed beef. When I was a kid, on very rare occasions, my mom would cook us sirloin steaks bought fresh from a local butcher. As you know, sirloin is on the lower end of beef cuts as far as quality and flavor goes. But, that was the best we could afford. My mom did nothing to prepare the meat. You will probably laugh when I tell you she grilled the steaks with a skillet in butter. Believe it or not, it was wonderful. It was some of the best tasting food I can remember from my childhood.
When I grew up, I had a good job and we were able to afford better cuts of meat. We had rib eye, New York Strip, fillets, t-bone, but I could never get the flavor my mom got out of those sirloins. I tried different marinades and other spice combinations in prepping the meat. I could often get better results this way, but never was able to get what I remembered from my childhood. The meat had little or no flavor. I often had to slather the cuts in steak sauce. I hate that.
A few years ago, some friends of ours took us out to a top-shelf steakhouse. It was one of those places where you don’t look at the prices, you just order. They only served grass-fed beef. Our steaks were fabulous, the best I’ve had in years. The waiter seemed to know a lot about beef. He told us grass-fed beef makes all the difference. Now, I only buy grass-fed beef. I’ve fallen in love with steak all over again.

  3. Hi Dwight, really enjoyed the article. As someone who always tries to eat grass-fed when I can, I’m already totally on board. Have you personally purchased meat from Amazon before? If so, how was the experience and overall quality?

    1. Hey Will ,
The process of buying meat is actually better than buying it at your local supermarket. Online you get the best cut with come first to customers ordering direct. Thanks to your comment I have added a side note that will make that clear.
      Thanks for commenting,

  4. I was wondering the differences between grass fed beef and grain fed beef. And I think I wiill always go with Grass fed beef since it has less monounsaturated fats. Since my trainer at the gym told me to consume it less just a month ago.

  5. Ohh this is the most important article that i have read this year, am a lover of beef meat, and frankly speaking i didnt have an idea of whatever i was eating but now i have a sure way of knowing that am eating the right beef. Thank you again!!

  6. Thanks for a very informative article. I had no idea you could buy beef on line and have it delivered. I had lost my taste for steak for the same reason as you. I grew up in a rural community and my grandparents raised their own beef. He did his own processing until he got to old but I still remember how that grass fed beef tasted. Even the hamburgers had a different flavor compared to today’s meats. Do you know if there are any others sources for grass fed beef? I’m not against ordering on line, but there’s no one here during the day and I wouldn’t want it to sit outside all day until I get home. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

  7. There’s no doubt that grass fed is nutritionally superior and healthier than corn fed. Cows are designed to eat grass after all. Finding grass fed in the UK is not easy if it’s the supermarket one is looking in. Your suggestions for online suppliers may well be the way forward. I’ll go look. My husband will be chuffed as he loves a good steak! Thank you sharing.

    1. Hey Lace,
Thanks for commenting and I hope this article helped! I’m Not really sure how the situation would affect being the Uk but I willing hear how it goes if you happen to order.

  8. Hello Dwight, Thank you! I did not know you get grass-fed meat from Amazon… I will definitely look it up. I would also not buy liver unless I am sure they are free range or organic.
